Outside Trafford, Greater Manchester has no state grammar schools, so for most families the 11 Plus means an independent school entrance exam. The Manchester Grammar School, Withington Girls' School and Stockport Grammar School hold theirs in the January before a child starts, with applications closing in the autumn. Bolton School asks candidates to sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test in October. Most families apply to more than one school, so check the dates for each.
